An interface-enriched generalized finite element formulation for locking-free coupling of non-conforming discretizations and contact

Abstract We propose an enriched finite element formulation to address the computational modeling of contact problems and coupling non-conforming discretizations in small deformation setting. The displacement field is augmented by terms that are associated with generalized degrees freedom collocated along interfaces or surfaces. enrichment strategy effectively produces node-to-node discretization can be used any constraint enforcement criterion; this demonstrated both multi-point constraints Lagrange multipliers, latter a Newton implementation where primal multiplier fields updated simultaneously. show ensures continuity field—without locking—in mesh problems, tractions transferred accurately at without need for stabilization. also stable respect condition number stiffness matrix using simple Jacobi-like diagonal preconditioner.
